Mahabaleshwar Hill Station
Located in the Western Ghats range in the Indian State of Maharashtra, Mahabaleshwar is one of the best hill stations in India. With one of the few evergreen forests of the world, it served as the summer capital of Bombay province during the British Raj. Mahabaleshwar is a popular holiday resort and honeymoon spot, and an important pilgrimage site for Hindus.
It is the site of Mahabaleshwar Temple. Mahabaleshwar is also known for the honey and strawberries produced here.It is said that the climate of Mahabaleshwar is ideal for Strawberries and Mulberries. One can also get a taste of "Strawberries with Cream" (season: Jan -Feb) or "Mulberries with Cream" (season: April–May). The average high and low temperatures throughout the year are 23 degrees and 16 degrees centigrade, respectively. The Venna lake is one of the major tourist attractions of Mahabaleshwar. Another popular and scenic hill resort Panchgani in close vicinity (about 20KM). The 'Table-Land' phenomenon of nature at Panchgani is breath-taking. Mahabaleshwar is known for its "points", from which a person can stand and enjoy the entire scenery.
There are more than 14 points in total, which provide unique view to the tourists. The popular ones are Arthur's Seat, Kate's Point, Needle Hole Point and Wilson Point, Some of the popular temples are the Panchaganga Mandir - as per the hindu mythology five holy rivers Krishna, venna, koyna, Savitri & gayatri show their token appearance here in five springs flowing closely. Shri Shankar Mandir - here the Mahalinga of the lord Shiva is of Rudraksha shape & believed to be 'self-bodied.The Shri Krishnabai Mandir, an old temple.
